Innovation in motion—literally.

As part of the 5th Annual Carbon Hub Meeting, Rice University VP for Innovation Paul Cherukuri and CEO Bryan Hassin took the inaugural ride on the first swing fully supported by Galvorn, DexMat’s cutting-edge carbon nanotube fiber.

📍Now on display at the O'Connor Building for Engineering & Science, the Galvorn swing is more than just a conversation piece—it’s a tangible example of advanced materials shaping the future.

Stronger than steel. Lighter than aluminum. And yes, comfortable enough to take for a spin.

This is Carbon Hub innovation in action—merging bold ideas with breakthrough materials to transform what's possible.

🌍 Day One Highlights – Carbon Hub Annual Meeting 2025 🌍
What a powerful start to the fifth Carbon Hub Annual Meeting at Rice University!

The morning kicked off with early networking over coffee and breakfast, followed by opening remarks from Marie Contou-Carrere and Matteo Pasquali—setting the stage for a day focused on climate-forward materials innovation.

💡 Key moments from the morning session included:
🔹 A big-picture framing of the sustainability challenge by Ken Medlock, Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies
🔹 A deep dive into public-private innovation partnerships featuring leaders from Shell, Huntsman Corporation, The Kavli Foundation, and Novo Nordisk.
🔹 A dynamic panel on bringing advanced materials to market, with perspectives from architecture to automotive
🔹 Thought-provoking dialogue on the big science questions shaping the future of carbon materials and hydrogen—from Stanford University, UC Santa Barbara, Instituto IMDEA Nanociencia, and Rice researchers

We wrapped the session with a fireside chat between Matteo Pasquali and Scott Nyquist of McKinsey & Company reflecting on the Carbon Hub’s vision and momentum.

The conversations are only getting started. Stay tuned for more from Day Two.
