Currently, the School offers the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and a PhD in Physical Therapy. The mission of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in Physical Therapy is to provide an educational environment that challenges graduates to think critically, engage in evidence-based practice, embrace life-long learning, deliver effective care within legal parameters, promote health to a variety of constituencies, and demonstrate a strong ethical commitment toward physical therapy and society. As one of only five schools in the nation that offer the PhD in physical therapy, TWU has a unique role in preparing both men and women for scholarly leadership through its high quality program, which contributes to new knowledge in the field and provides qualified faculty for programs throughout the nation and world. This program was developed to meet the educational needs of the practicing physical therapy clinicians that want to move into teaching and research positions. It emphasizes the scientific basis of clinical practice and allows students an opportunity to work closely with a mentor in their areas of clinical interest. Courses are taught over the internet and on weekends in order to accommodate working therapists.
