Hutchinson Community College is proud to announce that student Aubrianna Oberle has been selected as a 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar, a national honor awarded to only 200 students across the country. Funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, the $1,000 scholarship supports students pursuing credentials in high-demand career fields.

Aubrianna is completing the LPN to RN Traditional Bridge program at Hutchinson Community College. After she graduates, this Phi Theta Kappa scholar plans to work as an emergency room/medical surgical nurse. Outside of her studies, Aubrianna works at different medical facilities as a travel nurse. She would like to thank her mom and dad, Roy and Melissa Oberle, and her fiancé, Shawn Simmons, for all their support and being there for her when she needs them most.

“I am extremely happy for Aubrianna and her hard work being recognized by the Chime Scholars Foundation. She is very deserving of this award,” Ryan Diehl, HutchCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter advisor said.

Blast from the Past - HutchCC Childcare Center

Looking back through the archives, one thing hasn't changed: childhood should feel like home. For over 35 years, our on-campus childcare center has offered a unique mix of degree-educated instruction and cozy, play-based learning in a renovated house setting. Whether you need a flexible part-time schedule for your 2.5 to 5-year-old or a nurturing step toward kindergarten, our doors are open to everyone.

We all start at the basics. The Newton High School EMT class is in their first days of the semester and they are spending time learning how to manage the movement of patients. HutchCC Mark Smith had them doing stairway evolutions with the stair chair. Evolutions like this seem simple, but they truly are a foundation to the proper care of our patients AND the providers who care for them. Lifting correctly, understanding the tools, and reassuring the patient are all components of this “simple” exercise. We are excited for where this training and education will take these students!

Hutchinson Community College just secured a $100,000 RAISE grant from the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship, and it’s a massive win for our area.

If you’re not familiar with how our apprenticeship setup works, it’s all about letting people earn a real paycheck while learning high-demand skills on the job. Right now, HutchCC already supports 51 active apprentices, but this funding is going to help:

- Bring on 12 new rural apprentices

- Open up more pathways to high-paying, local careers

- Help keep our best talent right here in rural Kansas instead of losing them to bigger cities

Thank you for the support of the Kansas Department of Commerce for funding apprenticeship expansion. Find out ways to get involved in apprenticeship opportunities by connecting with the Hutchinson Community College Business and Industry Institute

Hutchinson Community College will conduct a planned emergency preparedness exercise on Wednesday, September 2, at approximately 9:55 a.m.

The exercise, conducted in partnership with the Hutchinson Police Department, will include an increased police presence on campus and simulated sounds of gunfire using blanks.

If you are on or near the HutchCC main campus during this time, please know that this is only a training exercise and not an actual emergency.

The exercise is expected to last approximately 20 minutes and will involve several buildings on campus. Signs will also be posted to notify visitors that training is taking place.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we work with our law enforcement partners to help keep our campus community prepared and safe.

Blast from the Past - Talk about front-row seats to history! On March 4, 1960, the Hutchinson Sports Arena hosted the Kansas State Democratic Convention.

Members of the HutchCC Young Democrats Club served as event ushers, giving them the rare opportunity to meet three future iconic leaders and presidential hopefuls in a single day: Senator Hubert Humphrey, Senator John F. Kennedy, and Senator Lyndon B. Johnson. (Pictured are Humphrey and Kennedy with Kansas Governor Docking).

Just a few months later, JFK would secure the nomination—making this a unforgettable moment for our students.

Did you or a family member attend this historic event at the Arena?

HutchCC helped students save an estimated $642,600 in textbook costs during the past academic year.

The college achieved these savings by offering over 90 different courses across more than 170 class sections that required zero paid textbooks. Faculty members utilized Open Educational Resources, which provide students with free, high-quality digital learning materials. Covered subjects spanned many general education courses including English Composition, Macroeconomics, Biology, Introduction to Philosophy, and Elements of Statistics.

Textbook prices across the nation continue to create financial hurdles for many families pursuing a higher education degree. HutchCC remains committed to lowering these hidden costs to ensure local college courses remain direct, practical, and truly affordable for our community.
