Due to the general uncertainty we face with planning larger group events this season, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Par B Q. While it is being cancelled with regret, we feel it is the right thing to do on several fronts. We look forward to seeing everyone next year.

Par-B-Q update. We are rescheduling the event to move it to Maryville (Mozingo Course) on Friday afternoon, September 25. Details forthcoming.

The 26th annual Par-BQ was played Friday, August 9th at the Shoal Creek Golf Course, in Kansas City, Missouri.

We had 43 golfers: with 7 actives and 36 alumni. The afternoon weather was perfect for golf – in the high 80’s with light winds; albeit a bit humid.

Our 2019 Champions made 3 eagles and 10 birdies in route to a two stroke victory. The team of Brian Connel, Austin Rolf, Nick Maassen and Josh Balwanz finished at 16 under par (55).

We had three teams that finished at 14 under (57), with final results determined by score card playoff.

Finishing in second place was the team of Robert Paul, Tod Gordon, Brian Stewart and Craig Marshall. Their birdie on the #2 handicap hole (Hole #18) was the winner.

Finishing in third place was the team of Ryan Dold, Lenny Pittala, Rob Aschentrop and Bob Jerome.

Our fourth place team of John Roush, Mike Zimmerman, Mike Jenkins and his son (Logan) playing for last minute scratch (Wyatt Brummer) was our other team at 14 under. They parred the # 1 handicap hole (Hole #7) while the other two teams birdied it.

Thanks to the generous donations of many alumni, our Raffle raised an additional $510 for the Alumni Corp. The proceeds from the tournament, including the extra donations several alumni made, will net about $2,000 once all expenses have been paid.

Registration/Check-in opens at 11:30;
Lunch at approx. Noon;
Shotgun Start at 1:00 PM.

Our Par-B-Q celebrated its 25th anniversary with the 2018 tournament that was played Friday, July 27th.

This year’s event was held at the Deer Creek Golf Course, in Overland Park, Kansas.

We had 51 golfers: with 4 actives and 47 alumni. The afternoon weather was perfect for golf – in the low to mid 80’s with light winds.

Our 2018 Champions picked up 12 birdies to go along with the 2 eagles on the back nine, in route to a two stroke victory. The team of Brian Connel, Austin Rolf, Destri Gibbs and Josh Balwanz finished at 16 under par (56). In the last four years, this is the third time we’ve etched Connel and Rolf on the Par-B-Q trophy, and the second time for Gibbs and Balwanz; and both Connel and Gibbs were runners-up in 2017.

Finishing second place at 14 under (58) was the team of Nick Maassen, Barry Ford, Tommy Schoeneck and Mike Roper.

Third Place, at 11 under – for Senior Net (60) was the team of Scott Antle, Scott Hartema, Tim Bodine and Rob Granquist.

Hole prize winners were: Scott Hartema (LD), Tommy Schoeneck (CtP), Brian Connel (LP), Ryan Newell (CtP) and Austin Rolf (LD).

Jeff Mattson was the $100 winner in our Pre-Payment raffle; and in typical Mattson fashion he asked that it be instead donated to the House Improvement Capital Campaign.

Thank you to the following individuals who provided door prizes and raffle items for the tournament: Shannon Lenz, Christopher Pottier, Gary Stuetelberg, Brian Stewart, Mike Jenkins and Robert Aschentrop.

Thanks to the generous donations of many alumni, our Raffle raised an additional $570 for the Campaign.

The proceeds from the tournament itself (which is really not intended to be a big fundraiser) should add in the neighborhood of $1,000 - 1,200 to the Campaign once all expenses have been paid.

Just a reminder for those participating in Par-BQ tomorrow.

We are playing at Deer Creek Golf Course in Overland Park, Kansas.

Lunch/Registration is at NOON. Announcements will occur at 12:45.
Shotgun start at 1:00. Please try to be there no later than 12:15, especially if you have not prepaid. DON'T BE LATE!

There will be a few raffle items you will want to consider (bring some cash $$), and a considerable number of door prizes for the lucky.

After the tournament, several of us will likely regroup at the Outlaw Cigar Bar (address: 13700 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66223) for some more stories, a few drinks and ci**rs (not a requirement, but management appreciates the business). This place is a BYOB establishment... so feel free to stop by the store (or pack a small cooler).
