Please join us in congratulating our very own Ms. Candice Gilreath, a Spring 2020 MPPA graduate, for her appointment as Town Administrator of Pittman Center, TN! Starting on February 16th, Candice will be putting her talents and best efforts forward to serve this East Tennessee community. While a student in the MPPA program, Candice served as the President of the UT Chapter of the ICMA and led a group of student volunteers to work at the annual ICMA meeting in Nashville in 2019. This is an excellent opportunity in local government management and we know Ms. Gilreath will thrive in this position. Again, congratulations and Go Vols!

-T O D A Y-

Despite tremendous advances in meteorological observations, knowledge, and forecasts, people still experience significant harm to life, property, and well-being due to tornadoes. Reducing these negative effects in part requires better understanding what people think and do when there is a tornado risk. This presentation will discuss research efforts to investigate people’s tornado risk perceptions and responses through the conceptual lens of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

As part of the Howard Baker Center's Energy and Environment Forum, co-hosted by the Arts & Sciences, Dr. Julie Demuth from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in the Weather Risks and Decisions Society will discuss this topic in greater detail.

This event is free and open to the public. Guests may park in the Vol Hall Garage at no cost by requesting a voucher from the Baker Center staff at the event.
