Culinary Desires – Food and Film - 10th Annual Feminist Border Arts Film Festival: Friday, June 6 | 11:00AM–1:00PM | Study Room | University Art Museum

This midmorning film block stirs up stories where food meets feminist resistance, ancestral memory, q***r desire, and intergalactic punk.

Featuring a post-screening filmmaker Q&A for A Culinary Uprising: The Story of Bloodroot, a documentary honoring the radical vision behind the q***r feminist restaurant that nourished bodies, minds, and movements.

Also screening:
Lupe Q and the Galactic Corn Cake – punk rock rebellion, abuela wisdom, and an alien showdown

Sondesh – a quiet, tender story of q***r longing and reckoning in Bangladesh

A Plate for Two – a sharp, simmering meditation on cooking, desire, and survival

Sara Millerey González was a brilliant, beautiful trans woman who was sexually assaulted and murdered in Colombia. Her life was stolen by systems of violence that continue to brutalize & erase trans people—especially trans women of color and trans femmes. Her murder is not isolated. It is part of a global pattern of anti-trans violence. We say her name. We demand justice. We mourn & we fight.

President Gustavo Petro spoke the truth when he said:
"[F]ascism is the violent elimination of human differences: political, religious, ethnic, sexual freedom."

Lorena González Ospina, Mayor of Bello, said: "Transphobia kills. No more indifference, and no more silence.”

We say her name.
We demand justice.
We mourn and we fight.

Let this be a memorial and a call to action.
