Soil temperatures in a large portion of KY are warm enough for crabgrass to begin to germinate. Preemergence herbicides should be applied very soon to control the first flush of crabgrass seedlings. The daily average soil temp for past 5 days in the following counties:
Henderson: 50°
Wayne: 50°
Casey: 50°
Clark: 49°
Bath: 48°

We are at or very close to the 50-55° range for crabgrass germination. That means preemergence herbicides like Dimension, Pendumum, or other crabgrass prevention products should be applied very soon in KY. See UK’s brand new publication on this very topic:
