🏈🌽 From Nebraska to the NFL — what a journey!

We're excited to celebrate Coby Rockenbach (’24) and the next chapter of his Athletic Training career!

Coby is currently working as a Seasonal Athletic Training Associate with the Detroit Lions for the 2026 season. His responsibilities include assisting with treatments and rehabilitation, preparing for practices and travel, maintaining the athletic training environment, and helping compile injury-tracking data that contributes to NFL research.

But here's the part we're especially proud of: Nebraska helped provide the foundation.

Coby credits his experiences and Athletic Training faculty at UNL with helping shape him as a clinician. That guidance also helped him earn the opportunity to complete an NFL summer internship while he was still a student.

When asked what he would tell current students pursuing Athletic Training, Coby emphasized lifelong learning, intentionality, relationships, teamwork—and never giving up on your dreams.

For the undergraduate student wondering, “Where could Athletic Training take me?”

Coby's story offers a pretty good answer: You might be surprised how far you can go. 🦁🏈

Today we recognize and celebrate the dedication, resilience, and hard work of the people who keep our communities, schools, hospitals, clinics, businesses, and athletic programs moving forward.

That's exactly what happened this summer when two current University of Nebraska–Lincoln MSAT students gained valuable experience with the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints.

Their internships gave them the opportunity to learn in professional football environments, build their athletic training skills, make connections, and experience firsthand what it takes to provide healthcare at one of the highest levels of sport.

And when their teams crossed paths? They got a pretty great Husker reunion out of it. ❤️🌽

🏈🌽 What did you do on your summer vacation? Our MSAT students went PRO. 😎

This summer, several students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Master of Science in Athletic Training Program took their education beyond campus and gained valuable experience with professional and elite organizations across the country.

From the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints to professional baseball and high-performance training environments, our students had opportunities to learn alongside experienced healthcare professionals while putting their athletic training knowledge and skills into action.
