Congratulations to our junior nursing students who participated in the White Coat Ceremony this week.

On Monday, September 7th, our junior-level nursing students participated in the White Coat Ceremony, marking an important milestone as they begin the professional phase of their nursing education.

The White Coat Ceremony was established in 1993 at Columbia University through the vision of Dr. Arnold P. Gold, a pediatric neurologist and advocate for humanistic healthcare. Dr. Gold believed that a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care should begin at the start of professional education, rather than waiting until graduation. The ceremony was created to emphasize that healthcare professionals have a responsibility not only to care for patients, but also to care about them.

In 2014, the Arnold P. Gold Foundation partnered with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to bring the White Coat Ceremony to nursing education, recognizing the essential role nurses play in compassionate, human-centered healthcare.

For our students, receiving their white coats represents more than entering the clinical phase of the program. It symbolizes their growing professional identity and their commitment to compassion, integrity, excellence, and patient-centered care as they continue their journey toward becoming registered nurses.

Congratulations to our junior nursing students on this meaningful milestone! We are proud to celebrate the beginning of this next chapter in your nursing journey.

FRANCISCAN CHARACTER- Goals of Franciscan Higher Education

These goals are the latest expression of Franciscan principles embraced by the University community. They reflect subtle, yet powerful, refinements (aggiornamento) of the Goals of Franciscan Higher Education originally drafted in 1991 by Fr. Christian R. Oravac, T.O.R.

The first Goal of Franciscan Higher Education is Franciscan Character:

Core idea: Realizing the presence of God in every student; the faculty and staff strive to demonstrate through word and work the love of God as they facilitate the spiritual and intellectual formation of our student body.

Valuing the University's Franciscan heritage and joining the mission of the Franciscans of the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis of Penance Franciscan Friars, TOR, the University strives to communicate the ideals of Saint Francis of Assisi in the modern day through its mission of education. Saint Francis called all people to a life of metanoia - a life of constant transformation of mind and heart in the Lord. The University Community joins in pursuing the life of grace as we journey together to our eternal home. Realizing the presence of God in every student, the faculty and staff strive to demonstrate through word and work the love of God as they facilitate the spiritual and intellectual formation of our student body.

What does it really mean to Reach Higher. Go Far.?

For our former "poster student," Crystal Little ’99, ’01, those words became much more than a Saint Francis University campaign slogan, they became part of her story.

From business and technology to athletics and service, Crystal embraced opportunities at Saint Francis that ultimately shaped a career uniquely her own. Today, her journey is a powerful example of The Power of And, and of what can happen when we grow not only for ourselves, but so we can “become that someone” for others.
