Hi all,
Welcome to UTeaLA!
My name is Aldo Schwartz, and I am the Founding President of the UCLA Tea Society – also known as UTeaLA.
We have a bunch of great events planned for this quarter, and you can learn about them in more detail in the latter half of this post.
Our first event is the "Introductory Chakai", which will be held THIS Thursday (September 29) from 4-5PM in the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden on UCLA Campus.
During this event, our faculty advisor and licensed tea instructor Prof. Michelle Liu Carriger will be leading a performance of the tea ceremony, as well as sharing historical background, discussing the club's programming, and answering any questions students may have about the Japanese tea ceremony.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED! This event is FREE and open to all.
Although RSVPs are not required, we highly recommend that you sign up for the event through our website at this link:

For those who are interested, you can read more about Prof. Carriger's background and experience practicing the tea ceremony on our blog – which can be found on our website by clicking this link:

Signups for Weekly Practices will open on Thursday evening (after the Intro event), so stay tuned for more information!
We are also looking for students to help with the behind-the-scenes running of the club, and a number of positions are open for recruitment! To learn more, please send us an email at:
