Feature Friday! Meet Peyton Floyd, the vice president of STC. Peyton is a second-year MATC student who will be graduating this May. She will enter the industry as a technical writer at a software company. Her interests are creating accessible documentation for all users. Her personal interests and hobbies include reading and going to local coffee shops.

We are excited to announce the second featured speaker in our Spring Speaker Series organized by the Society for Technical Communication - Texas Tech University.

In this talk, Dr. Byrd will argue that computer code bootcamps are racial organizations that “program” racially marginalized people into viable lines of code called functions to assist digital design technology rooted in Whiteness. Based on focus group interviews with instructors and Black student participants at the computer code bootcamp Clearwater Academy, he will discuss how instructors must balance the needs of tech employers with the mission of ending racism and poverty through computer programming.

Feature Friday! Meet our treasurer, Jiaxin Zhang:
Jiaxin Zhang is a Ph.D. student in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University and the treasurer of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). She teaches first-year composition and technical communication service courses. Her research interests include user experience, content strategy, digital rhetoric, and data visualization. She won second place in the 2021 SIGDOC Student Research Competition. In her free time, Jiaxin enjoys drawing and playing with her dog, Charcoal.

Feature Friday! Meet Emily Foshee, secretary of STC.

Emily is a second-year master's student studying Technical Communication at Texas Tech University. She is also the secretary of the Society for Technical Communication student chapter at Tech. She has worked as an Instructor of College Rhetoric at Tech, and she is now preparing to enter the Technical Writing industry. Her professional interests include technical writing, instructional design, grant writing, and technical editing. She is a volunteer grant writer for Epicenter, a nonprofit that advocates for justice for youths suffering from extreme sentences in Texas's criminal justice system. Her personal interest and hobbies include sewing, ASL, and reptiles.

Feature Friday!
Meghalee Das is a PhD candidate in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University (TTU), and the president of the Society for Technical Communication student chapter at TTU. She teaches first-year composition and technical writing courses and is an assistant director of the first-year writing program. Her research interests include online pedagogy, user experience, cultural inclusivity, and digital rhetoric. Her articles have appeared in Programmatic Perspectives, and STC's Intercom, and she has co-authored a textbook, Guide to Technical Communication, used in the Introduction to Technical Writing course at TTU. She is also the recipient of the 2021 STC and STC Chicago scholarships. In her free time, Meghalee enjoys gardening, art and craft, cooking, and playing with her cat, Tolstoy.
