Family life education focuses on healthy functioning within a family systems perspective and provides a primarily preventive approach. Family life education professionals consider societal issues including economics, education, work-family issues, parenting, sexuality, gender and more within the context of the family. They believe that societal problems such as substance abuse, domestic violence, unemployment, debt, and child abuse can be more effectively addressed from a perspective that considers the individual and family as part of larger systems. Texas Tech University is one of more than 120 universities that have a program approved by NCFR to provide coursework to the CFLE standards. Many Tech students are ready to sit for the CFLE test by the time they graduate with their bachelor’s degree, which will greatly assist them as they decide to enter the job market or continue on in their academic career.
