With the official swearing-in tonight, I wanted again to thank those 7,441 voters who marked the box for me.

One of the most rewarding moments of the campaign was being at the polls on election day with Kevin Seltzer and our daughters. It was heartwarming to see people approach, with Kevin's daughter, Millie (Bellerive 3rd), enthusiastically shouting, "Vote for my Dad!" followed by my oldest daughter, Mia (South High 2020 grad), chiming in, "And my Dad too!" Their enthusiasm never failed to bring a smile to everyone passing by, whether they voted for us or not.

Our motivation for being on the school board is clear — it's for our children and for every child in the Parkway community.

Thanks again,
Matt Schindler

SCHOOL BOARDS ARE NON-PARTISAN.

The current Parkway school board operates with a commitment to professionalism, ensuring that personal political agendas do not interfere with their duties and decisions.

Candidates who bring personal politics onto the school board fail to grasp the non-partisan nature of the role and its significance within the district. Personal politics and grandstanding by board members in other districts have led to unnecessary distractions, diverting attention from serving the students and addressing their educational needs.

My Story

As a product of the public school system, I am a strong supporter of public schools. I am also a proud parent of two daughters in the Parkway School District. I was elected to the Parkway Board of Education on April 3, 2018 to a three year term to ensure the standard of excellence continues with a kids-first approach; by providing fiscal oversight and discipline; and to build a stronger and more vibrant Parkway community. I believe my varied experience, mentioned below, allows me to bring skills around education, financial management, and organizational management to the Parkway school board.

Born and raised in St. Louis, I am a 1990 graduate of Lindbergh High School. I attended Drury College (now Drury University) in Springfield, MO where I majored in business administration and German, with a minor in economics. I met my wife, Christy, at Drury. Soon after college, I returned to school and obtained a master’s degree in international relations from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Christy and I married in 1996, and after a brief stint as a substitute teacher, Christy and I took an “extended” honeymoon by joining the US Peace Corps as volunteers for two years in Armenia. I served as an Advanced Business Development volunteer, while Christy served as a Teaching English as a Foreign Language volunteer.

Upon returning to St. Louis, I took a job at the International Institute of St. Louis where I helped refugees and immigrants either start or grow their businesses for seven years. My next stop was at the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis (now Downtown STL, Inc.) where I spent over eight years promoting residential, business, retail, and community development. It was during this time that we had our first child.

As our daughter was nearing the age for kindergarten, and with our second daughter on the way, we chose to move to the Parkway School District in 2005 because of the excellent schools. We have not been disappointed. Our children have each had a tremendous experience in the Parkway system. I have enjoyed my volunteering and attending school events; especially dancing at the father-daughter dance. Christy has been an active PTO volunteer at our girls’ schools chairing the Teacher Appreciation committee and the Patriot Student of the Month, as well as coaching Girls on the Run for 7 years.
