¡Hola! On Wednesdays, we have our workshop in the elementary school. We work with third graders learning how to construct and care for a worm composter, and we work with fourth graders in the cultivation of a medicinal garden. The students are so fun to work with and they are so smart. I have learned so much from working with them. At first, it was so challenging to feel comfortable speaking with them and leading classes in Spanish, but after a session or two, it got much easier.
On Thursdays, we work with middle schoolers on the same projects. With sixth and eighth graders we are creating the medicinal garden and with seventh graders we are developing the worm composter. Doing the same projects in both schools has been so rewarding because observing the differences in their cognition is fascinating.
On Fridays, I work with my team on campus to create reviews of the week’s sessions and finalize the plans for the next week. We are working to create a digital resource bank to be able to share didactic materials with teachers around the country!
As I get to the end of my internship here, I am reflecting on how grateful I am to have been given this opportunity and I extend my gratitude to the K-State departments and colleges that have made this possible: Department of Modern Languages, Department of Agronomy, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Agriculture.
See you soon, MHK!
