We’re excited to share that we have over 640 calves on the ground this calving season at the research facility! 🐄🎉

With the recent stretch of beautiful weather, it’s been a great start to the season and has made for ideal conditions around the facility. We’re grateful for the team that works hard every day caring for the herd and supporting the research taking place here.

This short video captures a special moment from the season as a new calf arrives. Stay tuned for more updates as calving continues.

Market heifers go through two main feeding phases:
Backgrounding – Focused on steady growth and muscle development
Finishing – Higher-energy diet to achieve proper fat cover and marbling
On average, a well-managed heifer can gain 2.5–3.5 pounds per day.
Proper nutrition, clean water, and balanced minerals are essential for healthy development.
