Yesterday we had our book talk with the writer Djamila Ribeiro. She spoke about the inspirations behind her book and how the publishing market in Brazil and abroad receives Black women writers.

It was really great to get to know prominent Brazilian Black women who contribute to social justice and the fight against racism.

At the end, Djamila answered several questions from the audience and even signed books. It was incredible to meet and talk in person with someone so important in the fight against racism.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the event. A special thanks to the Camões Institute, a partner of the Portuguese program at Tufts. Without their support, none of this would have been possible.

Nothing better than starting the semester with a movie experience! 🎬🍿

This week, our Portuguese students watched The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto), directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho. This Oscar-nominated political thriller explores the turmoil and underground resistance in Brazil through the story of a researcher-professor in Recife during the 1977 dictatorship.

A huge thank you to Instituto Camões for their generous sponsorship and for making this experience possible. We are grateful to have the opportunity to learn and connect through art and culture. 😄
