As the co-creator of this page, forgive me for using this platform to reach out to the Florida Tech community but I think it is important to raise awareness for pet owners. My dog, used to swim in one of the many ponds and lakes found around Melbourne. He got a deadly infection by a fungus like organism called pythiosis. He is currently fighting for his life even after having tail amputated. Larger dogs are more commonly affected especially German Shepherds.
If you have a dog that loves to play in the water or play around lakes please take some time to become aware of pythiosis or lagenidiosis, both are similar emerging deadly diseases on the rise in Florida.
