Our teacher candidates gathered today for Pre-Residency Orientation as they prepare for the next step in their classroom experience.

Just down the hall, TigerLIFE students took part in Future Forward Friday with Dr. Darla Keel, assistant vice provost for Strategic Enrollment and registrar.

Research Highlight 🔬

Today, we recognize Dr. Yu Wu, research assistant professor with the Center for Research in Educational Policy (CREP), for recently published research in the Asia Pacific Journal of Education examining how instructional leadership can support student achievement.

The study explores how school leaders can encourage teacher collaboration and innovation and the connections among leadership, teaching practices and student outcomes.

College of Education leaders visited Concord Academy in Memphis to connect with the Concord team and learn more about the school, its students and the work being done to support students with diverse learning needs.

Concord provides a small, supportive learning environment designed to meet students where they are and help them learn, grow and thrive.

💻 Something new is launching in IDT!

The University of Memphis Instructional Design and Technology Program is kicking off a new Professional Development Series designed to help IDT students prepare for the workforce, strengthen their research skills and connect with professionals in the field.

The first session is an Online Academic Publishing Workshop featuring Stephen Parks, Regional Engagement Editor at MDPI. Parks will share practical strategies for writing and publishing research and navigating the peer-review process.

While the series is designed primarily for IDT students, select sessions will also welcome the broader community, creating even more opportunities to learn and network.

Happy 901 Day from the College of Education! 💙🐯

There’s no better way to celebrate Memphis than by welcoming some of the newest members of our COE community.

Eight faculty members are stepping into new roles across the College this fall, bringing experience and expertise in counseling psychology, educational psychology, special education, youth development, instructional design and technology, adult education and education policy.

We’re excited to have them in the 901 and look forward to the impact they’ll make through teaching, research and community engagement.

That question drives the research of Dr. Andrew Tawfik, associate professor of Instructional Design and Technology and director of the Instructional Design and Technology Studio in the College of Education.

From examining how failure can strengthen understanding to exploring meaningful uses of AI, Tawfik’s work focuses on creating learning experiences that encourage problem-solving, persistence and discovery.
