We are excited to announce that Dr. Jose E. da Silva, vice president for strategic enrollment and student success, has been selected for the 2026-27 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship.

Da Silva joins a cohort of 40 higher education leaders in this signature program of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.

The fellowship is a yearlong executive leadership program that brings together reform-minded community college leaders from across the country, preparing them to become the next generation of community college presidents and to drive transformational change and improve student outcomes.

Selected from more than 125 applicants across 20 states, fellows will spend the next year analyzing workforce and student success data, exploring proven models from Aspen Prize research, receiving mentorship from experienced college presidents, and developing strategies to enhance student success.

They join a growing network of more than 500 Aspen fellowship alumni, including more than 215 sitting presidents, who are working to expand economic mobility for students and strengthen communities nationwide.

This year’s Summer Institute on the Macon Cove Campus kicked off with a spirited Roll Call competition led by Master of Ceremonies and legendary radio personality Stan Bell, followed by a campus-wide Goosechase scavenger hunt that energized participants and set the tone for collaboration and team-building. Congrats to the IT department for winning top honors on the Roll Call!

Over the course of four days, faculty and staff engaged in professional development, hands-on training, and strategic planning aligned with the college’s Reform 3.0 priorities.

The institute featured 42 sessions on topics ranging from the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education and advancements in digital learning to strategies for improving outcomes for first-generation students.

President Tracy D. Hall introduced “Start, Stride, Soar” as a guiding framework for the college's strategic plan, Reform 3.0. This model emphasizes supporting students at every stage of their journey—from entry into the college, to persistence and completion, to successful transition into the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution.

A special thanks to our keynote speaker, Dr. LaShaunda Massey, a clinical psychologist affiliated with the new College of Osteopathic Medicine at Baptist Health Sciences University. Dr. Massey focused on change management and human-centered leadership, and emphasized that transformation requires both strategy and empathy as the college adapts to Reform 3.0 expectations.

The Summer Institute is always a great opportunity for employees to strengthen their professional capacity ahead of the fall semester, but just as importantly, it represents the college’s culture of fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and a shared vision for student success across the institution.
