The 70s brought about a lot of groundbreaking moments for the University Singers. From being named the nation’s “Number One Collegiate Entertainment Group” by the Bob Hope Collegiate Talent Search to performing in Washington D.C. (twice 😉) for presidential inaugurations, the Singers were proving that they truly were creating a bright future.

1971 was when the Indiana General Assembly proclaimed the University Singers as “Indiana’s Official Goodwill Ambassadors,” a name they still embrace to this day.

Another shining moment from the 70s was the phenomenal 10th Anniversary Spectacular. Held in Emens Auditorium, this show set the precedent for the community support the Singers generated and embraced. All 3 performances were record-breaking SRO shows!! 😱

The only other events to have this achievement were the comedy event with comedian Red Skelton & the Broadway musical Cats!! The Singers were (and are still!!) so blessed to be able to share their passions with an audience of thousands.

Pictured above is a moment in time captured from this 10th Anniversary Special. From the lavish set design to the gorgeous costumes, these people (both on & offstage) helped make this show a true spectacle!

This year, we are hosting the 60th Spectacular!! 50 years ago, we broke this SRO record, so why not try to break another ticket record? 😁❤️

On November 18, 1964, a letter from the Director of the Department of Music, Dr. Robert Hargreaves, to the President of Ball State Teachers College, John R. Emens, was received!!

In the letter, Hargreaves expressed to Emens that he wished for a “sharp choral organization to represent Ball State.” It was voted on November 11, 1964 to inaugurate this new choral group, aptly named the University Singers. 🎤 ✨

27 student performers made it into the group & had their first rehearsal just before Christmas 🎄 ⛄️

Ball State was made a University in February of 1965. This brought about University status for the newly-formed choral group.

The Indiana General Assembly noted the “phenomenal growth, variety, and quality programs” the University Singers would provide for its participants. The group was created to represent the progressive spirit of the new Ball State University and provide quality entertainment into the hearts of its audiences everywhere. ❤️🖤🤍

Pictured are the first performers that began the University Singers & started their long road of faith, hope, laughter, and love.💃🕺
