**Alumni Spotlight from our Master of Occupational Therapy program**
Laura Chenoweth
Since graduating from Muskingum University in 2024 with a Master of Occupational Therapy, Laura Chenoweth has focused her career on the critical window of early childhood development. While earning her degree, Laura worked full-time as a COTA in pediatrics. Balancing these two responsibilities allowed her to relate coursework to real-life circumstances while also leaning on the work experience of her COTA peers to enhance the learning environment. During her time at Muskingum, Laura served in various leadership roles and also co-founded “Big O, Little T,” a mentorship program designed to foster peer communication between new and returning students.
Following graduation, she continued her career in an outpatient pediatric setting where she gained specialized knowledge in programs such as Interactive Metronome, Therapeutic Listening, Astronaut Training, Oral Placement Therapy, and Brain Gym. Her passion for infant care also led her to become a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS), utilizing oral motor and sensory knowledge to support early feeding and regulation.
In March 2025, Laura joined The Villages of Indiana, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting foster, kinship, and adoptive families. Working within the Zero2Three program, she provides vital wraparound services to families across the state, including completing developmental screeners, providing occupational therapy sessions, navigating IEP transitions, and facilitating "co-care" collaboration between foster and biological families. In this role, she also shares her expertise in sensory development at support groups, inter-company courses, and at statewide conferences. Laura also assisted with research that explored how sensory-based interventions affect attention for children with autism, which is now published in Music Therapy Perspectives.
Outside of her professional work, she enjoys camping and exploring with her husband and their two year old twin boys. Laura remains dedicated to early childhood advocacy, believing that a healthy sensory foundation is essential for life skills later in life.
