The Yale Arab Alumni Association, the Yale Arab Students Association and Yale MENA have the pleasure of relaunching the ‘Arabs Applying to Yale 2024’, a free 4-part admissions virtual series (https://arabsyale.eventbrite.com):

• The 1st part has already been recorded and is centered around Admissions & Common Misconceptions. With Mr. Keith Light (Director of International Admissions at Yale), current Arab students & Arab alumni: https://youtu.be/EgYcrzntJmI

• The 2nd part will be held on Friday October 13th, 2023, at 11:30am EST (on zoom) and will focus on Common Application Guidance. With Dr. Thomas Dolan (Former member of the Yale Alumni Association Board of Governors & Interim Executive Director of Y-Apply).

• The 3rd part will be held on Saturday October 14th, 2023, at 11:30am EST (on zoom) and will be an interactive session with current Arab Yalies. You will get the chance to speak directly with those who were in your shoes just a few years ago.

• The 4th part will be anonymous essay feedback. Those who register on Eventbrite and attend the live Zoom sessions on Oct 13th and Oct 14th will be given the exclusive chance to submit a draft of their main common app essay and receive personalized feedback by a current Yalie* ahead of the early action deadline. For those interested, further information will be presented during the session.

We were very lucky to have Mr. Keith Light, Director of International Admissions, with us and hope we were able to provide a high-level overview of the admissions process and break some common misconceptions. YAAA has a new fellow!!

The Yale Arab Alumni Association (YAAA) is pleased to announce that Abhinav Nayar (MC ’15) is the recipient of the 2014 YAAA Fellowship for Engagement in the Arab World.

Mr. Nayar, an Ethics, Politics & Economics major, will be an intern with the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development in Amman, Jordan. Mr. Nayar will be serving as a Program Development officer, contributing to a number of projects designed to improve Jordan’s education outcomes. While at the Foundation, Mr. Nayar will work on the core project of Edraak, which seeks to expand Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) in the Arab region. He has previously studied in Morocco as part of Yale in Morocco and worked for the Qatar Foundation, helping the Foundation create a strategy for a global fund for primary education.

This is the third year that YAAA has awarded the Fellowship to a Yale undergraduate with a proven academic or professional interest in the Arab Middle East and North Africa.

In December, YAAA launched its Speaker Series by inviting Prof. Ellen Lust, Associate Professor of Political Science, to Beirut. She presented a paper entitled “Why Libya, Tunisia and Egypt Face Different Obstacles to Democratization: Parties, Polarization and Political Transition” at the American University of Beirut.
