Cancer is an insidious disease that devastates not only the patient but also the patient's family, friends, and acquaintances. There are very few of us who have not had a close family member or friend affected by cancer. Perhaps you remember how overwhelmed and helpless you felt when you heard the news that one of your loved ones was stricken by this disease. This is why we at Sigma Chi's Alpha Omicron chapter want to take action and do what we can to help make a difference. This year we are partnering with the Huntsman Cancer Institute, a world-leading comprehensive cancer center, to make a positive impact on the world around us.

Featured here are the stories of Sigma Chi brothers and other members of the Greek community on how cancer has affected their lives and why they derby. Share your story, join the fight, and donate today.

Thank you all for your support so far this Derby Days! We have already raised over $35,000 in online donations and are well on our way to our chapter goal of $75k towards cancer research.

This year, the Alpha Omicron chapter of Sigma Chi is proud to dedicate its efforts in memory of brother Grayson McCall’s father, John Michael McCall, who passed away earlier this year from his own battle with cancer. The front of our shirts this year feature a white rose, part of our Fraternity’s ritual at memorials for brothers, and John’s initials. John, a Sigma Chi alumnus of the Arizona State - Epsilon Upsilon chapter, will be treasured in the memory of his friends, family, and Sigma Chi brothers forever.

Shirts will be on sale for $20 at our table in front of the LBC from Wednesday - Friday this week from 11am-3pm. All profits from shirt sales will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Pleased to announce the grand total for this year's Derby Days is finally in at a record-breaking $52,049.69! We cannot thank our family, friends, and most importantly the sorority women at Tulane enough for making this entire week possible. It has been an inspiring experience to see the entire Tulane community rally around such a uniting cause, and we hope to have the same success next year.

This Derby Days has been a record-breaking year for Sigma Chi - Alpha Omicron and the entire Tulane community. Seeking to break our record of $12k that we raised a few years ago, we set our initial goal at $15k... and blew past it on day one. We set another goal and another and the support of the entire brotherhood and the community here at Tulane broke all of those. We will be announcing the final tally halfway through the party, but until then... we have this year's rankings. Settled by less than $100 in total dollars raised, and only a few attendees at events throughout out the week here are the Derby Days Champions:

1. Chi Omega
2. Kappa Alpha Theta
3. Phi Mu
4. Sigma Delta Tau
5. Kappa Kappa Gamma
6. Alpha Delta Pi
7. Alpha Epsilon Phi
8. Pi Beta Phi

We would never have reached our goals without the efforts put forth from every one of these sororities and our families and friends across the U.S. Thank you all for your support and stay tuned for an announcement of an exact amount raised next week!

Hey everyone! We are closing in on the end of our week, and we hope everyone has been having as much fun as we have. We have a few final announcements as we can't wait to celebrate with you all tomorrow night.
1. All house banners must be up by 5pm today for judging.
2. Profile pictures will also be judged today.
3. Video and link shares will be totaled at midnight tonight.
4. ALL coin war payments by cash, venmo, and online donations will be totaled tonight at midnight! Donations past this point will still be accepted, but will not count in the contest.

and lastly, we had to raise our goal to 30k and blew past it! We are now around $37,000 in donations and hope to hit 40k by the party tomorrow night where we will be announcing the winner!

Thank you to everyone who has made this such a successful week. We will have more posts to follow, but we have been amazed every day at the support coming in across the Tulane and Greek communities. It's amazing what we ALL have been able to accomplish!
