🌍 Advancing Ethical Research Where It Matters Most
In late March, something powerful happened in Lviv.
Faculty and trainees from multiple global programs came together for a three-day workshop focused on HIV, mental health, epidemiology, and bioethics. This wasn’t just an academic gathering. It was a strategic, on-the-ground effort to strengthen ethical, locally driven research capacity in Ukraine.
Led in part by the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University New York State International Training and Research Program (NYS-ITRP), alongside partners from Brown University and Loyola University Chicago, the workshop brought together diverse expertise under a shared mission:
➡️ Build sustainable research infrastructure
➡️ Strengthen ethical frameworks in complex environments
➡️ Empower local investigators and future leaders
At a time when global health challenges are increasingly interconnected, this kind of collaboration is not optional, it is essential.
What stands out most is the commitment to equity and ethics. Research is not just about data. It is about people, communities, and ensuring that solutions are culturally grounded, responsible, and impactful.
Through initiatives like this, the New York State International Training and Research Program continues to expand global partnerships while reinforcing the importance of community-centered approaches to public health and research .
👏 Proud to be part of work that connects science, humanity, and real-world impact.
