Student Research Survey: CSUN Anthropology Alumni and AI

CSUN Anthropology student research assistant Sashja ten Velden is conducting a research study on behalf of the AI and Anthropology Research Team working with Dr. Suzanne Scheld. As part of this research, she is conducting an anonymous survey of CSUN Anthropology Alumni and how they are using AI in their current professional work.

The survey should take 10 minutes to complete. Your responses will help the department better prepare students for future career pathways.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Why do we save old buildings and places?
Which get saved? Which don’t? Why?
Who decides?
When did this start?
What’s the process?
What’s the connection with archaeology?

Anth 490A in Fall ’26 will address these questions and more with a particular focus on the historic preservation “process” in Los Angeles (city/county).

Useful for anyone pondering a career in this or allied fields.

Michigan Technological University and the American Cultural Resources Association (ACRA) announce the 2026 virtual Career Fair in Cultural Resources Management!

The fair is specifically designed to help students and new or early career professionals studying for applied careers in cultural resources, including Anthropology and Archaeology, Geography, Sociology, Preservation, Architectural History, Planning, and allied fields. Last year’s fair was a successful trial, attracting more than 50 colleges and universities and more than 35 employers, ranging from large corporations to small organizations.

CRM is a central part of the larger network of professionals working in heritage, preservation, compliance, management, and planning, most academic programs producing students for these careers are small, with more than 800 institutions distributed widely throughout North America. On the other hand, many companies, agencies, and organizations that hire program graduates are often in regions separate from those academic programs, relying upon word-of-mouth and regional recruitment systems. This virtual career fair will connect potential employers and employees that would not otherwise interact due to these hurdles.
The Handshake app supports the virtual event. Universities and colleges manage access to the network for their current students and alumni.

Employers can join and are able to set the timing and type of events- from group information sessions to individual interviews.

We hope you’ll consider joining this virtual Career Fair:
March 18, 2026
12 pm - 5 pm EDT

Students can see the event details and register for the event here: https://app.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/86a04bf4-311f-4264-9f0b-ed4b9705e63b/student_preview

Congratulations to Anthropology student Ryan DeJohnette Jr. for his feature in the first installment of CSUN Project Rebound’s “The King we don’t Quote” exhibit!

Per Project Rebound Senior Program Coordinator Kevin Zemlicka: “This exhibit centers Dr. King’s late-career critique of militarism, capitalism/materialism, and poverty, and places it in direct conversation with the criminalization of Black, Brown, and poor communities today. It rejects a “dream-only” narrative and treats system-impacted students as interpreters of history, not props in it.”

This exhibit can be viewed on the third floor of Sierra Hall, near SH-391.
