Our Story

Services are available to all free of charge to all UMaine students. We provide a safe and supportive environment where all students can understand their rights and options under Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act. Our focus is on gender discrimination including sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.

Our process and services are led by the student we are servicing. We work to ensure that UMaine is a safe place for all students. We can help answer any questions and concerns. We can offer resources, referrals, and assist in accessing accommodations. The office provides workshops and presentations focusing on the areas of sexual violence, relationship abuse, and stalking to any group via request. We have an amazing Student Life Educator names TJ England! You can catch him doing in-class presentations, helping with a residence hall program, teaching bystander intervention, presenting to athletics, clubs, Greeks, and a variety of other audiences. If you would like to speak with someone about these topics, set up a presentation, or just find out more about our process please email, call, or stop by the Student Life Office located on the 3rd floor of the Memorial Union, Room 315. Please note that we have changed out name to Title IX - Student Services during the Fall 2018 semester. The new title better reflects a neutral tone and place for all students to come and receive supports, resources, and understand their rights. Prior to becoming the Office of Sexual Assault & Violence Prevention, The Safe Campus Project served the University of Maine community with funding from the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice (Grant No. 2000-WA-VX-0012 and 2004-WA-AX-0002).
