“People think that theater classes are really easy because we don’t have ‘homework’. But if you have a paper due, you know you have to write six pages on this topic and then you can be done and turn it in—there’s nothing more you have to do. With theater, if you get assigned a scene with somebody, you have to first memorize the lines, go through those lines with the person and get a feel for who they’re playing their character as. They figure out who you’re playing your character as and you work off of each other. You then have to figure out the given circumstances of your histories together and make sure that those both line up, then create the setting for your scene and work for hours until you get it right. You might get it right the first time, but that’s rarely ever the case. So it’s not like you just have these six pages that you have to finish, you have two human beings to create and that’s our homework—creating other people.”

We had a great time playing around inside the "alphabet box" in our choreography class two weeks ago and focused on weight shifts last week, join us today to explore another choreographic technique in Hiestand 207 at 7pm!
