Dear CABO Alumni, Members, and Followers,

Hi, my name is Amy and I am CABO’s VP of Communications for the school year of 2018 to 2019. This past semester, I’ve worked on revamping and utilizing CABO’s Instagram page to increase engagement and visibility of the organization on campus. I’ve been quite successful in growing the page’s followers and likes by having consistent and quality posts. As this semester comes to an end, I am excited to embark on a new project and journey. Staring this Winter Break, I will be shifting my focus towards our page. My first objective in utilizing this platform is to post Alumni and Student spotlights. My goal is for these spotlights to help past, current, and new members of CABO to connect and build a strong network of global business leaders among each other. I am aiming to have at least one alumni and student spotlight per month, starting this December. I will be posting the first Alumni Spotlight this week and the first Student Spotlight next week. My second objective is to post mini blog recaps of major events or updates about the organization’s activities. And lastly, my third objective is to continue creating photo albums to document the organization’s memories. If you are interested in participating in the spotlights or possibly writing posts, please DM the page or message me in person and I can send you more information. Thank you for your time! Have a good week!

Sincerely,

Amy
VP of Communications

This past Tuesday (11/27), CABO initiated 11 new members. The entire executive board is very proud of this new generation of members. The Vice President of New Member Education is Jack Shawler. His primary responsibilities include planning, organizing, and leading the new member meetings. During the new member meetings, he led collaborative team projects and discussions to foster a community among the new members. He has worked tirelessly this past semester to create meaningful content for the meetings and a useful and interesting new member project.

Here were some of his thoughts: I think in terms of being the VP of New Member Education it was challenging and fun because I had to think of projects and discussions that involve both China and the US in a business setting. However, I had a great team of executive members around me who were willing to help guide me on where I needed to go. I’m thankful that they were able to help me. That being said, I’m proud of the new members for helping to make the process of initiation so rewarding. Each and every new member was fun, interesting and brought their own skills into the organization. Thus, I can say with certainty, they will be excellent new members. I’m proud of the two case studies we were able to do, as well as the speaker dinner and several other events the executive team has planned. All of the new members were able to join and work in teams. I am happy at how the whole process has turned out. I am excited for the spring semester and the people who will be entering CABO in the future.

This past Thursday (11/01) Sam Fletcher, our Vice President of CABO, organized and hosted a Speaker Dinner focused on international business and entrepreneurship. The two speakers we had were Ken Shawler and Jenny Xiong. Ken primarily focused on the difficulties and benefits of establishing contracts in China. Jenny shared her personal story of working in the corporate world and starting her own business. Evan Wang, alum of Miami University and executive member of CABO, who is a partner of Jenny's business also shared his thoughts and perspective of creating a business. Overall, CABO learned a lot about the intricacies of doing international business and being an entrepreneur. Thank you to the speakers! We greatly appreciate the time and energy you spent to come talk and share with us. And thank you to all the members who came.

We had our first philanthropy event for Matthew 25 Ministries organized by Ashley Xu, our VP of Philanthropy. We sorted pill bottles and received a tour of the facility area. We learned about Matthew 25 Ministries mission and the importance of supply chain in their business processes. We then had lunch at Uncle Yip's and had dim sum. Thank you to Ashley, everyone who drove, and everyone who served today!
