Well, he looks familiar!

The School of Psychology’s very own Dr. Salsman was featured in Xavier’s Faculty Spotlight. The article highlights Dr. Salsman’s journey into the field of clinical psychology, including his expertise in dialectical behavioral therapy gained training under its creator, Dr. Marsha Linehan. Also discussed are his roles as Director of the Psychological Services Center and core faculty member in our undergraduate major and doctoral program in clinical psychology.

“Salsman’s doctoral students will go on to become clinical psychologists. They may work in private practice, hospitals, community mental health settings or in forensics. The undergraduate students he teaches could end up in a variety of different careers, but the common thread that ties them all together is that psychology is a science degree that helps people develop and enhance their own psychological flexibility, which benefits them with problem solving and communication skills across different disciplines, throughout their lives.”

Meet Nick Salsman, Ph.D, ABPP, professor of psychology and director of the Psychological Services Center.

Victoria White is the newest recipient of the Xavier University Psychology Diversity Action Committee's (PSY-DAC)'s annual award for excellence in their role within the PSY-DAC.

Victoria was nominated for this award by multiple peers who each noted that she consistently goes above and beyond to help the DAC to accomplish its goals. This includes her role in contributing to the monthly newsletter, staffing the breakout rooms at both PsyD interview days, volunteering to take notes at many DAC meetings, and taking the lead on the forthcoming climate survey.

Altogether, this year she has shown exceptional initiative, commitment, and positive energy.

White's peers in the DAC have said that “Victoria's passion and conscientiousness make her a perfect candidate for the award” and that “Overall, she's been wonderful, and we couldn't do anything without her!”

Congratulations Victoria!

Jill Gosling, a fourth-year PsyD student, was the most recent recipient of the Xavier University School of Psychology Bieliauskas Graduate Student Award. This recognition highlights Gosling’s exceptional contributions to the field of psychology through her research, clinical experiences, and classroom success.

Jill has trained as a student psychologist in child assessment, primary health care, and community mental health care settings - her most recent practicum placement at Central Clinic in Cincinnati has been particularly memorable for the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, and other mental health care professionals.

Recently, Gosling has been finalizing her dissertation — a research study that incorporates her interest in attachment theory and it’s potential associations between covid-related events and quality-of-life.

Gosling recently matched with her top choice for her doctoral internship. She will be spending the upcoming academic year at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on the Clinical Child track, receiving supervision from leading experts in child and adolescent psychology and psychiatry. Congrats, Jill!

The 15th Annual College of Professional Sciences (CPS) Symposium on Interprofessional Teaming brought together approximately 150 students from eight healthcare-related fields to engage in an interprofessional teaming experience.

Twenty-one advanced-standing Psy.D. students participated, and three Psy.D. alumni and one faculty member served as team facilitators.

The Interprofessional Teaming Symposium has successfully educated over 2,100 students across seven disciplines in the past fifteen years. In 2024, we celebrate the fifteenth annual symposium.

Congrats to our Xavier participants for another successful CPS Symposium!
