There are a lot of misconceptions about acupuncture, especially if you’ve never experienced it before. Here are a few things we hear often in clinic and what patients are usually surprised to learn once they begin treatment.

“Acupuncture hurts.”
The needles used in acupuncture are extremely thin, and most people barely feel them at all. Some sensations may feel like gentle pressure or a dull ache, similar to releasing tension during a massage.

“I’ll have to keep coming forever.”
Treatment plans are individualized and designed to support long-term balance, not dependency. Some patients transition into occasional or monthly maintenance visits, while others come in only as needed. Frequency depends on your condition, how your body responds to treatment, and any lifestyle or at-home recommendations given throughout care.

“Treatment takes too much time.”
Many patients are able to see meaningful progress with once-weekly visits, especially in the beginning stages of treatment. Your plan is adjusted over time based on your goals, symptoms, and overall response.

“It takes a long time to notice results.”
Some people notice shifts after their first session — especially in stress levels, sleep, or relaxation. Acupuncture works by supporting nervous system regulation and the body’s natural healing processes, which often build progressively with consistent treatment over time until your body can take over doing what it does best!

Healing is rarely one-size-fits-all, and neither is acupuncture care. Our goal is to support your body in a way that feels sustainable, personalized, and realistic for your life.

Healing doesn’t always happen in big, dramatic moments. Sometimes it begins with five quiet minutes. A slower breath. Stepping outside. Letting your nervous system soften, even briefly.

Acupuncture is often thought of as a single treatment for a single symptom, but care is rarely that simple. The body is deeply interconnected; stress, sleep, hormones, digestion, energy, and emotional health all influence one another in ways we may not immediately notice.

In acupuncture, we support the body as a whole while creating space for regulation and recovery over time. Treatment is not about “fixing” you in one session. It’s about consistency, listening to your body, and supporting long-term balance in a way that’s individualized to you.

Rest is part of healing. Slowing down is part of healing. Small moments of care still count.

We’re here to support you through the process; gently, intentionally, and without rushing your body’s timeline.

What has your body been asking for lately?

Maybe it’s relief from chronic pain that keeps returning.

Maybe it’s support through stress, burnout, anxiety, or
feeling constantly overwhelmed.

Maybe it’s help with migraines, jaw tension, poor sleep,
digestive issues, hormone imbalances, fatigue, or low energy.

Maybe you’re recovering from an injury, navigating fertility challenges, supporting your body through pregnancy, or dealing with tension that never fully seems to leave.

Maybe it’s simply wanting to feel more comfortable, more balanced, and more like yourself again.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine support the body by improving circulation, calming the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and helping restore balance where things may feel stuck or depleted.

It's not about masking symptoms or rushing the healing process. It’s about creating space for the body to regulate, recover, and function with more ease over time.

Every treatment is tailored to the person in front of us because every body carries stress, pain, and imbalance differently.

No matter where you are in your healing process, you do not have to navigate it alone.

Stress is not only something we experience mentally, it’s something the body carries physically.

Over time, chronic stress can influence sleep, digestion, hormones, immune function, pain patterns, and the nervous system’s ability to regulate and recover.

Acupuncture offers a space for the body to slow down and shift out of constant survival mode. Through consistent care, we support nervous system regulation so the body has more capacity to rest, respond, and heal.

This work is not about “pushing through” symptoms or quick fixes. It’s about creating conditions where the body feels supported enough to function differently over time.

Sometimes healing begins with simply giving the nervous system a chance to exhale.

We’re here to support that process with care that looks at the whole person, not just the symptoms.

For many people, tinnitus isn’t only an “ear issue.”

It can involve a combination of:
• Jaw + neck tension
• Circulation
• Stress + nervous system regulation
• Sinus congestion or inflammation

This is where acupuncture and herbal medicine can play a supportive role:
• Releasing structural tension
• Supporting circulation to the head + ears
• Helping regulate the body’s stress response
• Supporting overall physiological balance

Rather than focusing only on the sound itself, we look at the underlying patterns contributing to it.

When those patterns are addressed, patients often notice meaningful shifts in both the intensity of symptoms and their overall sense of well-being.

📍Let’s take a closer look.

Meet Nora MacLeod, L.Ac. ✨

Nora’s path to healing began with a lifelong curiosity about how things fit together. After studying textiles at Rhode Island School of Design, she found the same appreciation for pattern, connection, and detail in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

Today, as a California board-certified acupuncturist and herbalist at Artemisia Wellness, Nora brings a thoughtful, collaborative, and deeply personalized approach to care. Listening closely, tailoring treatments, and helping patients feel seen, safe, and steadily better.

Her clinical focus includes:
• Women’s health + hormonal balance
• Anxiety, stress + nervous system support
• Insomnia + sleep health
• Acute + chronic pain relief
• Psychedelic integration support within a safe, non-prescribing framework

Nora graduated summa cm laude from Emperor's College and completed advanced herbal training at ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism, along with an oncology support externship at Disney Family Cancer Center. Her care is calm, trauma-aware, and evidence-informed, with treatments that may include acupuncture, customized herbal formulas, and simple lifestyle support to help sustain results between visits.

We’re grateful to have Nora as part of the Artemisia team and love the care she brings to our community every day.

Reproductive health is not just one system, it’s the reflection of many working together.

In acupuncture, we look at how the body is communicating beneath the surface: how stress, energy, circulation, and regulation all influence reproductive function over time.

Rather than forcing change, we focus on supporting the conditions where the body can find its own rhythm again.

This kind of care is gradual, responsive, and deeply individual because no two reproductive journeys look the same.

We’re here for the nuance, the waiting, and the complexity that often doesn’t have simple answers.

Come in and let’s talk about what your body is saying.

More than a treatment, this is time set aside for you.

A quiet room, a moment to slow down, and care that’s fully focused on how you’re actually feeling.

Every detail is intentional, from the way we listen to the way we treat, so your body can settle, reset, and start to shift.

Sometimes healing begins with simply having the space to pause.

Come in and take a breath with us.

However this day meets you, all of it is valid. All of it belongs.
