“SCI emphasizes interdisciplinary study,” Tyler Schutt (SCI '17) said. “Exposure to other disciplines provides objects of comparison in inspiration to the primary focus of our work and can give us insight [into] where to go next.”

Check out how students like Tyler get involved on campus and explore what SCI has to offer below!

Tyler Schutt (SCI '27) is bringing his experience with Pitt's Science Olympiad to SCI, viewing it as a great outlet to give back and create opportunities for young STEM students.

“Beyond providing critical funding for me and my students, the award connects me to the broader DOE ecosystem — one of the most resourceful and influential organizations pioneering quantum information science — and opens doors for long-term collaborations that will shape the trajectory of my research program,” Kaushik Seshadreesan, a SCI faculty member, said on his recent grant from the Department of Energy.

The award supports five years of research, rewarding Kaushik Seshadreesan with $875,000 to work on his project, titled ‘Quantum Networking for Efficient and Robust Distributed Services’ (Q-NERDS).

The University of Pittsburgh's School of Computing and Information (SCI) and School of Law recently approved an Accelerated Law Admissions Program (ALAP).

Designed to streamline the transition from undergraduate study to law school, the program enables SCI students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and law degree in six years, rather than the traditional seven. Through ALAP, qualifying SCI undergraduate students will complete their SCI requirements in three years, proceeding to work on law school coursework in their fourth year.
