Management science – the academic alternative to the case study method – has its roots in analytical decision making in complex, dynamic business environments. Its prevalence and popularity has had sweeping effects – today, nearly all leading B-schools include some form of the Carnegie Mellon management science model in their curriculum. ollaboration is at the heart of our academic philosophy. As a decidedly small school housed within a decidedly small research university, we are a conservatory of innovation. The linkages across campus are numerous and an inherent part of our culture. Partnerships that would be considered unconventional at other schools are what we do best. Tepper students partner with students, professors and researchers in other schools and centers, such as engineering, robotics, biotechnology and life sciences, product design and computer science. Areas of specialization for which recruiters and researchers recognize the Tepper School include: Finance, Financial Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Operations Management, Consulting & Strategy, Computational Marketing and Technology. As one of the most technologically elite universities in the world, the dedication to cutting edge learning and application underlies everything that we do – with an approach to business management that allows our students to make a significant impact in business and in society.

Congratulations to Olivia Ahearn, MBA '26, named to Poets&Quants' "MBA's to Watch"!

Before coming to the Tepper School, Olivia pivoted from a marketing background into consulting at Deloitte, a move she now credits with shaping how she approaches complex problems today. At Tepper, she served as Vice President of the MBA Class of 2026 and sat on the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium's Board of Directors through the Golub Capital Fellows program, all while pursuing her passion for Pitbull rescue advocacy.

She's headed back to Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Consultant after graduation, carrying forward a simple belief that's guided her throughout the program: strength and kindness can coexist.
