UW-Platteville Mathematics Department

UW-Platteville Mathematics Department The UW-Platteville Math Dept strives to provide a high quality undergraduate education that develops & enhances students' computational & reasoning skills.

Often called the "Queen and Servant of the Sciences," mathematics has a long history of developing new frontiers and enriching the sciences and engineering. Most recently, mathematics has become increasingly important in such diverse areas as economics, psychology, linguistics, biology, management science, and agriculture. Members of the UW-Platteville Mathematics Department are dedicated teachers

and collectively feel that their primary responsibility is teaching. In addition to classroom contact, faculty are ready to assist students outside the classroom. Each student majoring in mathematics is assigned an academic advisor from within the department and students usually get to know most of the faculty before graduation. Many faculty are involved in research activities in such areas as complex variables, differential equations, group theory, mathematics education, functional analysis, and statistics. Department faculty are frequent speakers at conferences and meetings of professional organizations at regional, state, and national levels. Currently, we have over 24 full-time faculty members and approximately 8 instructors, who have diverse interests in teaching and research. We offer four different options for the major and three minors.
