Throughout the vast and complex system we call Masonry are found many beautiful and educational degrees, and although many similarities exist between some of them, on the whole innumerable moral and religious lessons are taught. The following comments, remarks and opinions should in no way be construed to reflect a preference of any Masonic Body over another, but rather to examine some of the fascinating aspects of that part of Freemasonry known to us as the Holy Royal Arch.

The present day Royal Arch Chapter is to me one of the most enjoyable of all the Masonic Degree Conferring Bodies. The companionship between the members seems to be more intense and sincere than in most organizations, and the friendships that develop to be more enduring. The business meetings, or stated convocations, are much less formal and stodgy than those of many bodies, and humor and levity within bounds of decorum and good taste is commonplace. When an officer in a Craft lodge makes a mistake in his ritual he is frequently mortified, whereas in a Royal Arch Chapter he will laugh it off and plow on. Humor has a recognized and deserved place in nearly every situation, Masonry being not the least of them, and our Chapters seem to have accepted and encouraged this human need albeit perhaps unwittingly. Degree work is by necessity more formal, but certainly never stuffy of pompous. Rather than frightening our candidates with mysterious dark secrets of their fate, they are made to feel a part of the proceedings, especially when the degrees are explained to them that they can better absorb the beauties and meanings of the workings.

"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all."- Isaiah 53:6 KJV

This Verse is attributed to the Prophet Isaiah and makes the comparison that fallen mankind is like unto mindless and vulnerable sheep. All of humanity has universally sinned and wandered away from God's path. Instead of following divine direction, every person has chosen to go their own way, driven by self-centeredness and independence.

In scripture, sheep are known for being shortsighted, defenseless, and highly prone to wandering off and getting lost. Comparing humanity to sheep emphasizes our helplessness and our inherent inability to find our own way back to safety without the guidance of God.

The state of being out of God's leadership, referred to in the text as "Gone astray" represents humanity's state of universal sinfulness. It is not just about a few mistakes; it is an active turning away from God's laws to pursue individual desires and personal comfort. The path of least resistance, if you will but God is always willing to come find you. Lead you back beside the still waters and comfort you. While the first half of the verse highlights human rebellion and the universal nature of sin, the second half of the verse introduces a message of redemption. It explains that God took the collective sins, guilt, and wandering of humanity and "laid them on" a substitute—a Servant, whom Christians identify as Jesus Christ, who bears the burden of humanity's mistakes. Mark Well!

DeMolay International is a youth leadership organization with Masonic origins for young men ages 12 to 21. There is in select areas a "Squire" program for those younger than 12. It was founded in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1919 and named for Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar. DeMolay was incorporated in the 1990s and is classified by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

DeMolay is open for membership to young men between the ages of 12 and 21 who acknowledge a higher spiritual power. It has about 12,000 active members spread throughout every continent except for Antarctica. There are active chapters in Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan, the Philippines, Argentina, Aruba, French Guiana, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador (affiliated to Peru jurisdiction), Italy, Romania, Greece (affiliated to Romania jurisdiction), France, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia (affiliated to Serbia jurisdiction), Bulgaria and the United States.

Although young women are not permitted to join the organization, chapters are permitted to elect chapter "sweethearts" and "princesses."

While DeMolay is a youth organization for young men, the Rainbow Girls and Job's Daughters are similar Masonic-related organizations for young women.
