Need something to watch this weekend? Brown students have free access to the streaming service Kanopy, and every Friday during the semester we’ll be posting a gem from its extensive library we think you should seek out!

CRONOS (1993) is the directorial debut of Guillermo del Toro and foreshadows much of the creature work and atmosphere-building that would bring him international renown. This unique horror story has a Mexican antiques dealer discover a special device, in the shape of a golden scarab, that promises its user immortality— at a considerable cost. In a mix of Spanish and English, starring frequent del Toro collaborators Federico Luppi and Ron Perlman, and running at a lean 90 minutes, CRONOS is an ideal watch for fans of the Academy Award-winning director’s more famous works.

Check back every Friday for more of BUFF’s Kanopy Gems!
