Boston University Kendo Association Boston University Kendo Association (BUKA) is BU's highly competitive collegiate kendo club. We welcome anyone who wishes to participate.

Kendo is the martial art of Japanese fencing which originates from the feudal samurai culture of ancient Japan. The Boston University Kendo Association accommodates all levels of Kendo- from intense advanced practices to introducing Kendo to newcomers. Our club sends teams and individuals to compete in Cornell University’s Annual Kendo Tournament in the fall as well as Harvard’s Shoryuhai Kendo T

ournament in the spring and holds regular practices three times a week. Weekends from 10am-1pm at Boston University’s Fitness and Recreation Center and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm at the SAC Gym.

is coming up tomorrow, Wednesday 4/8, and we would love your support!!! This annual fundraiser helps our club fund tournaments, equipment, and so much more! Especially with increased shipment costs this year, your contribution is more valuable than ever.

Any donation starting at $5 would mean so much to our club and help us compete for bonus funding from BU.

As per tradition, we will be doing one haya-suburi for every dollar raised—so your contributions will help us get even fitter (and maybe a little sore...)!

It’s still a ways away but BU giving day will be coming in a blink of an eye!

Giving day is a 24 hour fundraising campaign that allows people to help raise money for various programs, initiatives, and causes at BU.

Donations to our club allow us to not only travel to big tournaments like the one hosted by Columbia University, but host our own BUKA tournament! Moreover, donations to our club let us fix up our equipment, keeping the team refreshed. With more equipment we will be able to take on more members and grow the club, so anything to offset the cost of equipment will do great things for the club. As we are now forty-plus members strong, we thank you warmly for your continued support!!!

Last weekend, BU kendo did a demonstration at the Boston Japan Festival!! We did Kihon Uchi and Ji-Keiko as a part of the demonstration.
We are grateful to Yamazaki-sensei and Sugimoto-sensei for making this possible and for acting as shinpan for the Ji-Keiko!

Yesterday, we hosted our 11th Annual BUKai! Thanks to all of the schools, sensei, BU alumni and volunteers who helped make this event a success!🐾 Congrats to Brown for🏅, BU for🥈and Harvard and UConn for🥉in the team division! We hope that everyone enjoyed the mixed teams division and made friends!
Special thanks to our shinpancho Yoshida-sensei and our fukushinpancho Rasmusson-sensei! We couldn’t have done it without you and all of our other shinpan volunteering their time!

We raised $3,460 with 59 donors this year! These funds will help support our club’s future tournaments and upkeep of essential equipment — and we couldn’t have done it without your love and support. 🫶
