The Brothers of The IPL Chapter of ΑΦΑ Fraternity, Inc. participated in the Miami-Dade Cancer Walk XXVI at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. We are grateful for this opportunity to stand in support of the fight against cancer. We honour all of the survivors and remember those precious lives who have transitioned from their earthly state. We pray for those who are currently battling cancer. You can and will WIN in this fight, Champion!

The Iota Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in conjunction with Equal Ground hosted our Youth Empowerment Canvass Initiative. This event taught students the importance of civic engagement and provided students with the opportunity to canvass the neighborhoods of Goulds, FL. It was a huge success! This initiative was a collaborative community event that included partners such as the Youth Department at Community Tabernacle COGIC, and Keeping the Dream Alive Foundation. There were 34 participants who made contact with 231 households in the area.

We invite you to come celebrate with us as we “Party with a Purpose.” This event supports our efforts of strengthening educational literacy and academic success within our communities. In collaboration with our Education Foundation, we will be able to continue awarding local minority males with scholarship opportunities. Like, Tag, & Share!

The Food and Wine Fest is a fundraising event that supports scholarships. Proceeds will help deserving students further their education.

Recently, Brothers of Iota Pi Lambda attended the MDCPS Community Partners Awards Luncheon. We were selected by Pine Villa Elementary and recognized by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for our volunteerism and service.

The service we provide to Pine Villa is only a snapshot of the work IPL has provided to our schools and community members.

We are committed to serving our communities and advocating for Academic Success!

notes that more than 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma. The National Eye Institute projects this number will reach 4.2 million by 2030, a 58% increase. Glaucoma is called “the sneak thief of sight” since there are no symptoms and once vision is lost, it’s permanent. Experts estimate that half of people with glaucoma don’t even know they have it. Combined with our aging population, we can see an epidemic of blindness looming if we don’t raise awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations to preserve vision. As much as 40% of vision can be lost before a person notices its effects. Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness. Moreover, among African American and Latino populations, glaucoma is more prevalent. Glaucoma is 6 to 8 times more common in African Americans than Caucasians.
