IPEC 561: Interprofessional Virtual Geriatrics Case

In this course, learners work on small interprofessional teams to complete a case based exercise that follows an older adult across all settings of care. Learners analyze patient and family-specific information, enter discipline-specific data and information into a collaborative workspace, and respond to case-specific, competency-based questions as individuals.

Thank you to everyone who makes this course possible!

April 7th, 2024 is World Health Day!

This year's theme is "My health, my right", which was chosen by the World Health Organization to "champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination."

Celebrating Interprofessional Healthcare Month!

Let's shine a spotlight on the incredible programs fostering interprofessional learning right here at VCU!

Among our champions of collaboration is the nursing program, actively engaged in many of our interprofessional classes and activities. Did you know? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are three nurses for every doctor in the United States! 🩺

A heartfelt thank you to all nurses for their unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit in healthcare.

Glickstein, B., Huddleston, M., Gordon, S., & Mason, D. J. (2019, February 13). There are three nurses for every doctor in the U.S., but nurses appear as sources in only 2% of health care stories. Poynter.

We love hearing that faculty are attracted to VCU because of their commitment to interprofessional collaboration! Welcome!

Meet our new faculty!

Join us in welcoming Kimberly Lintag-Nguyen to the full time faculty team in the Department of General Practice, Dental Hygiene Division! Lintag-Nguyen, who has been an adjunct professor since spring 2022, now joins the School of Dentistry as an assistant professor of Dental Hygiene.

Lintag-Nguyen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2016 and a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education in 2018. She brings experiences from private practice, five years of teaching at Old Dominion University, published over seven peer-reviewed articles, and she will be completing her Ed.D in Educational Leadership at VCU in May 2023.

What brought you to VCU? VCU is nationally known for research and innovation. I hope to contribute more to my profession through the research I conduct as a VCU professor. I was also attracted to the dental school in hopes to enhance interprofessional collaboration between future dentists and dental hygienists. I am a big supporter of working as a team, so educating the next generation of dental professionals in a collaborative environment is one of the reasons that made me want to join VCU's Ramily!

What sparked your interest in academia? I have always had a desire to teach, which was affirmed during my time in my graduate teaching assistant and adjunct faculty roles at ODU. As I continued to teach, my passion for education grew. With this full-time position, I hope to instill the passion I have for dental hygiene to my students, so they can continue to advance our profession!
