This was an incredibly uplifting event at the University of Rochester last night. I’m proud to be part of the office that helps to put on this event each year. The Reverend Dr. William Barber was the keynote speaker at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Address.

This is huge news for my Alma Mater, Bishop Kearney! Congratulations ladies! Go Team USA!

Wishing you all a very peaceful holiday season and that you get to rest and reconnect with family and friends. Having worked holidays for so many years, I feel fortunate to be able to actually unplug from work. I hope you’re able to do the same and, if you do have to work, that you make time to rest. 🎄

Lots of new views here lately so I thought I’d stop by and say ‘hello!’ It’s been five years since I left 13WHAM News but I always fondly remember the friends I made. I still stay in touch with them, even Doug Emblidge 😂❤️. I’ll pop by from time to time to share things that matter to me and to hear from you! Thanks for checking in and I hope you’re staying warm in this blustery weather 🌬️

Today Doug Emblidge clips on his microphone for the last time. This small act is one he’s repeated countless times and, at least for me, it’s one of the things that sticks with you when you leave a long-held career in TV. For once, I know something he doesn’t! You learn A TON when you work alongside someone at 4AM for 16 years. You share the big and tiny wins in your life. You talk about your kids, your family, your vacation plans. You develop inside jokes that sometimes became not-so-inside when laughter spills out onto the set. You argue and then reconcile. I recall that he literally sat next to me and taught me how to construct a news story. I later became his co-anchor on the morning show and continued to learn from him. He poked fun like a big brother and pushed me like a coach. He gave me advice like a dad. He’s shared in the some of the best days of my life and, together, we have shared grief. He stole my snacks and wrote with pen on my hand, daily. Doug, this isn’t goodbye. This is, ‘see ya later.’ You may leave news, but you will always be a journalist and expert storyteller. And you’re never getting rid of me. I love you.
Congratulations, my friend.

“50,000 Black women die every year of heart disease. I wasn't going to be a statistic.” I’m proud of my friend Cynthia Benjamin for sharing her journey to better heart health in this deeply personal essay. I hope it inspires YOU to take care of yourself. It’s not about looks—it’s about LIFE! 💪🏾❤️

According to the AHA, women who look like me have nearly two times the risk of stroke as white women and are more likely to die at an earlier age.
