Shorter University Bands Shorter University Bands In 2007 Shorter College created a Pep Band to perform in the stands at home football games. Under the direction of Mr.

The Shorter Marching Hawks were founded in 2008 and performed on the field for halftime. Tom Smith, the band consisted of students and local musicians to perform at all of the home football games, providing spirited cheers for the team. In 2009, Dr. Andrea Strauss took over as Director of Bands at Shorter College where she made significant contributions to the development of the instrumental music

education degree program. The Shorter bands continued to represent Shorter University under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Taylor from 2011-2016. Dr. Duane Warfield, Associate Professor of Music, is the current Director of Bands in the Edith Lester Harbin Department of Music at Shorter University since fall 2016.
