From the current No. I. :

Hello Beta Rho Brothers,

We've got our Alumni Weekend Cookout coming up and we'd love to see as many of you there as possible. Come out, catch up with your brothers, and enjoy some good food.

We also want to give you an early heads-up that we're working on launching a Beta Rho Alumni Endowment Fund. It'll be a way for alumni to directly support the future of our chapter and the men coming through it. More details to come, but we wanted you to hear about it early.

Hope to see you all out there soon.

Fraternally,
Cole Petersen
Chapter President, Beta Rho – Kappa Alpha Order

Remembering Kyle Rohweder ’19

A message from Abby Peters ’18 and Taylor Yarn ’19

Kyle Rohweder was the essence of a Roanoke College graduate in every way. He strived to create a better world for everyone by adamantly becoming the best person he could be and pushing others toward that endeavor. Kyle had a relentless work ethic and challenged everyone around him to become better which resulted in everyone he encountered coming out endowed with wonderful experiences and better than when he first met them. At the time I don't believe anyone knew how impactful Kyle would be on their lives, but looking back and conversing about people's time with Kyle it is clear he had a profound impact on everyone he encountered.

I remember the day that Kyle accepted his bid to Kappa Alpha. He was nervously pacing his room in Marion Hall and was talking about his decision to join Greek life as a junior and how it may impact his college experience. Up until his Junior year, Kyle had no interest in joining any fraternity but he said that when he met the brothers of Kappa Alpha, he already felt like he was friends with them and he joined because he wanted to spend more time with them and introduce his current friends to the brothers. He said, “these guys make me feel more confident to be myself.” Kappa Alpha values excellence and always aiming higher, which was a trait that aligned well with Kyle.

Kyle was a very compassionate friend and brother. He was always willing to talk to a friend in need and could make you laugh in any scenario. His dry and witty sense of humor could halt your bad mood, and get you laughing. Kyle always encouraged his friends not to take themselves too seriously, and to be authentically who they were, just as he was authentically and confidentially himself.

We all have the opportunity to honor Kyle’s fight and his passions by supporting this endowment.

Happy 150 to KA!

On this very day, one hundred and fifty years ago, the idea for Kappa Alpha Order was born. Lets share in the final Sesquicentennial Celebration today as we celebrate our history, renew our vows, promote our Order, and strengthen our future. We’ll be posting on social media all day and we invite you each to join the celebration at KAdayofgiving.com. Picture: Washington College circa 1850s. The old gold dot is located over Walsh’s room in the south dormitory. The crimson dot is located over Wood’s room in Cat Tail, the connector building between Washington and Robinson Halls.

Over the last few months paperwork and chartering fees (provided by two members) were submitted to resurrect the Roanoke Valley Alumni Association. We await approval.

Just remember you can be a member even if you do not live in the greater Roanoke Valley.

04/29/2015

If you are interested in being a charter member of the Roanoke Valley Alumni Association please send an email to Matt Clarke at [email protected] with your graduation year, initiation year, email, address, and phone number. No information provided will be published.

Please note the Alumni Chapter is not the same as an Alumni Advisory Council and requires little to no commitment. Activities will include social gathering for members and assisting the chapter at your availability and leisure, meaning you will not be contacted to constantly donate time and/or funds. Meaning you will have more say in what goes on during Alumni Weekend, things you want to see changed, and the chapter will have a vote at convention.

Note: any KA can join regardless of chapter, you can join even if you live away, and you can belong to more than one alumni chapter

We have received a donation to cover our chartering dues, so all we need is names. Who is in?

More information on Alumni Chapters can be found at the following link:

Fraternally,
D. Matthew Clarke
Deputy Province Commander - Ammen Province

The report should be sent along with the $500 dues and a membership roster. Further, please follow the enumerated requirements below from Kappa Alpha Laws 11-122. For voting at the 2011 Convention and 2012 Province Council, the deadline was June 1, 2011.
