Santa Anna In the Land Of Lincoln St. Mary's University students are traveling to Springfield, Illinois to visit the prosthetic cork leg of Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.

Our mission is to bring public attention to invite the people of Illinois to reconsider the “war trophy” status of the artifact being held in their name, and support repatriation of Santa Anna’s leg to Mexico. It was a private souvenir for decades, used first to play baseball on the battlefield, then later to earn 10 cents a peep at county fairs. Mexico has requested its repatriation for over 100

years because this former President lost his leg TWICE leading Mexico’s defense against foreign invaders.”
