Marine biology student Airiana Jerz turned persistence into a dream internship with sea lions and manatees, while Dr. Romina Uranga co-authored a major study revealing how our bodies regulate fat and energy at the cellular level.

🔬🌊 Meet Dr. Kent Hatch, Assistant Professor of Organismal Biology at New College of Florida, whose National Science Foundation-funded research is exploring the Marine Invertebrate Microbiome Assembly: Diversification and Coevolution. His work dives into the role of symbiotic microbial communities in marine life and their impact on biodiversity. 🦠💙

Dr. Hatch’s interdisciplinary approach combines fieldwork, lab experiments, and modeling to explore how avian species adapt to environmental changes. 🌿🐦

His goal with the NSF grant is to provide students with research experiences at the master's or PhD level, preparing them for the future and sparking excitement for science. 🎓✨

Why New College? Dr. Hatch was drawn to the opportunity to help build a dynamic program and community—a place where creativity and growth thrive! 🚀
