🤝Meet the Team!
This week, get to know Connie Bennett 👋

Connie has made the Institute for Engaged Aging (IEA) her home for nearly 5 years now. She was new to the upstate from the Cleveland, Ohio area where for the prior 12 years she was the administrator and a clinical research manager for a busy ophthalmology practice. She was looking to get involved and make a difference and she liked the idea of working with undergraduate, graduate students and young working professionals. She has been able to bring her love of people, knowledge of research and years of business management to the IEA to support several research studies and programs. “The Institute for Engaged Aging is a great place to be!” 💜🧡

Her newest efforts include focus on the growth of IEA community programming, such as the Caregiver Support Group, for those caring for people living with dementia and she is working with passionate volunteers, the South Carolina Department on Aging and Alzheimer’s Association to develop a program for those who have early onset dementia.

🗨 “There is a huge need for more education, monetary support and programming development to support those touched by dementia/Alzheimer’s in the upstate community”.

Always busy doing something, Connie enjoys hiking, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, walking, reading, backgammon, card games, music, strength workouts, Pilates, yoga, tennis, pickleball and travelling! Connie and her husband have 3 adult children, and 2 little grandsons. She doesn’t miss the snow, cold and grey days she left behind! ☀

Grandparents play an important role in families and communities. Research helps us better understand their health and well-being. 💜

☑ Objective: This study explores how everyday experiences impact the health and well-being of grandparents raising their grandchildren. Participants will use a study-provided smartphone and smartwatch to track health and daily activities over 14 days.

Want to participate? If you’re a grandparent caregiver interested in contributing to this important research, get involved and help us better understand caregiving roles.
