It's a tradition now--4th year in a row! On the final day of our 2nd years' classes we do "So You Want To Be A GC?" Jeopardy. It's always a fun wrap-up filled with genetic and pop culture trivia. The students bring snacks and their competitive (or non-competitive) natures. We are excited to announce the winner from the Class of 2026: Jenna Russom! Congratulations, Jenna, and thanks to the entire Class of 2026 which also includes Josie Cleveland, Sophia Couteranis, Pranathi Kandikonda, Hannah Munce, and Madeleine Wisler! We cannot believe our time together is coming to an end but we are beyond proud of everything you've accomplished and all you'll bring to the field in the coming years.

Our Program Director Rachael Bradshaw, MS, CGC, recently had an article (co-authored by Univ. of Arizona Program Director Chris Stallman) published in NSGC Perspectives about the importance of incorporating teratology risk assessment and counseling in genetic counseling practice. Rachael directs our program's Teratology course, amongst others, and has a strong passion for this work. We are proud to share!

The article below reflects the personal opinions of the author(s) and does not reflect the views or opinions of the Perspectives editors or committee, or the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). Rooted in the Greek teratos, teratology “is the science that studies the causes, mechanisms a...

We are proud to share this article written by Dr. Graham Colditz, a professor in the Department of Surgery at Washington University and leading researcher in cancer prevention, featuring quotes from our program's own Assistant Director and Director of Research, Dr. Erin Linnenbringer, about the value of cancer genetic testing and the reasons why it is becoming more common. It these kinds of innovative translational researchers that enrich our students' learning during their time at WashU!

Of the many advances in science and technology over the past 25 years, genetic testing is arguably one of the most notable. Once a rare part of health care, it is now becoming much more common. It’s possible that someone you know — or maybe even you — has had it done. Most often, people […]

Yesterday, our genetic counseling students had the incredible opportunity to attend the annual Rare Disease Day Symposium at WashU Medical Center. The experience brought them face-to-face with leaders in the field, expanded their understanding of rare diseases, and, most importantly, allowed them to hear the powerful and inspiring stories of individuals and families whose lives are directly impacted. It was a day filled with learning, connection, and renewed purpose... and maybe a zebra here and there!

Happy Genetic Counselor Appreciation Day to all the practicing and aspiring GCs out there! What better way for us to celebrate than to share pictures from the National Society of Genetic Counselors' 44th Annual Conference in Seattle? Our second year students, faculty, lecturers, and clinical supervisors had an amazing experience learning up-to-date information about medical genetics, networking, and even getting out to sightsee a bit. We also got the chance to catch up with some of our alumni. Thank you to all the genetic counselors out there providing excellent care to patients and advancing the field of medical genetics. We appreciate you today and every day!
