Bring Back Chico State Wrestling

Bring Back Chico State Wrestling This page is created by the frustrated alumni of CSU Chico Wrestling, that want to bring back the Varsity sport of wrestling to the university

Gary Crow and Mark Garrison met up with John Azevedo at the 2013 DI National tournament in at St. Louis, and discussed bringing back wrestling at both at CSU Chico, and in California in general. His outlook based on his recent experience as the head coach of Cal Poly was bleak - until we discussed our plan. Our plan, which is to get all of the like minded people together in a consortium than is fu

nded with a wrestling endowment, and organized with fans, past wrestlers, supporters and high level people from all walks of life. He got it quickly, and lent his name to our effort, and suggested we use many of the high level people he knows to network with, i.e., Dan Gable, current MMA fighters and past; Chuck Liddel, etc. He referenced how Binghamton University lost their program, but Actor William Baldwin single handedly brought the program back by his clout and fundraising. They had two All Americans at this tournament for the first time ever. No too shabby for a DIII program that got cut. Now we are getting somewhere....

In the mean while, whoever is reading this, let us know by liking this page so we can find you. That's the biggest problem, is finding everyone across the globe and organizing us into a powerful group. ( a quick example is that weekend I got in the elevator in St. Louis, and Don Terpen, CSU Chico Wrestler 1965 - 1967 was in there wearing a Chico State hat - what are the odd's of that? So I got his information, and he's now supporting us.) That is what will get the attention of the University higher ups, along with money. We will have both. Let me know if you are interested in helping, the more people we have, the better and faster our efforts will be. See you mat side at CSU Chico in the future!

I needn’t remind you that you didn’t set out to achieve something ordinary. You set out to accomplish something extraordinary. Therefore it is going to require an extraordinary effort.

Excellent Post - Thank you Mr. Dan Prado!

Today's message is one I'm so happy to share. I have my former wrestling coaches to thank for instilling in me and my teammates this practice of thinking. Thank you Clyde Forrest, Bob Ericson, and Armand Brett.
It's my hope that you will see how capable you are of bringing dreams to reality!

From my past experiences in sports and business, I have come to the conclusion that those who achieve higher levels of success practice the "Mindset of a Champion".
They see themselves performing at the highest levels possible. They VISUALIZE the accomplishment of the goal before they take action. They see themselves with the Medal around their neck, or the Contract finalized and Commission check deposited. They come to realize that the greatest treasure comes from WHAT they had to become in the process of achieving their goal(s).They clearly understand, without CHANGE there is no growth.

Quick five points on how Champions think.

1. Clear understanding of WHY they want it.
2. Overcome FEAR factor through Disciplined Action.
3. Staying in the MOMENT through 100% concentration.
4. Personal responsibility for OUTCOME. No excuses.
5. Ability to bounce back from FAILURE. Defeat does not define them.

In his book titled , The Little Book of Talent, author Daniel Coyle states " Seek out ways to stretch yourself. Play on the edges of your competence. As Albert Einstein said ,
" One must develop an instinct for what one can just barely achieve through one's greatest efforts. "
The key word is BARELY. Ask yourself: If you tried your absolute hardest, what could you ALMOST do? Mark the boundary of your current ability and aim a little beyond it. That's your spot.

Until next time. Keep on winning!
