Why Lion Caucus?

Lion Caucus was established because there was a need for student voices in the University’s engagement with governmental audiences at all levels.

“For almost a decade, Lion Caucus has helped us effectively engage legislators and advocate for funding and issues critical to Penn State,” said Mike Stefan, vice president for government and community relations. “They are a passionate and thoughtful group of students who bring an important student perspective to conversations with elected officials at the local, state and federal levels.”

Lion Caucus, Penn State’s student advocacy organization, provides students with opportunities to advocate for issues important to the University and their peers while fostering professional development and leadership skills.

Our Lion Caucus at Penn State students 💕 are representing their peers from Harrisburg to Washington, D.C., on matters that impact them, like federal student aid and state funding, which affect so many Penn State students.

New funding for Penn State puts our land-grant mission into action.

A recent $28.2 million award from the National Institutes of Health to the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute supports innovative practices and work to address rural health challenges, reduce medical barriers, and bolster access to care for rural Pennsylvanians.

The award furthers Penn State’s mission of statewide impact through partnerships with 32 hospitals and more than 1,000 clinics and health centers, which provide care for over 5 million Pennsylvanians. That is almost 40% of the state’s population!

Partnerships like this demonstrate Penn State’s continued commitment to stand out as a leader in research and innovation.

How sweet is this?

Maggie Will, a food science student from the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, will be working in the Sweetest Place on Earth after TWO internships with Hershey.

Will credited her hands-on experience for preparing her for this next part of her journey.

“This year I was able to do a lot of things in the lab, as well as some pilot plant work, working next to Hershey employees,” she said. “These experiences helped me to understand what things I need to ask specific people at the University and how those specific questions can help me in my classes.”

Senior food science major Maggie Will is heading to The Hershey Co. after graduation. She's been a leader in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences and completed two internships with Hershey prior to getting a job offer.
