Workforce development is about more than preparing students for jobs — it’s about creating direct pathways into meaningful service.

I’m proud that Misericordia University has partnered with the Pennsylvania State Police to provide Criminology students with a unique opportunity to transition directly from the classroom to the Academy and into careers as Pennsylvania State Troopers.

This agreement reflects what higher education should do: remove barriers, accelerate opportunity, and prepare talented students to serve their communities with purpose and professionalism.

Creating stronger pathways to higher education strengthens our entire region.

Misericordia University is proud to partner with Luzerne County Community College to help students continue their educational journey with greater flexibility and fewer barriers. By recognizing the value of associate degree achievement and helping students transition more directly into bachelor’s-level study, we are making degree completion more accessible and affordable.

Workforce development is about more than creating new opportunities — it’s also about improving the pathways that already help students succeed academically and professionally.

Last week was an exciting day for Misericordia University as we welcomed the Pennsylvania State Police to campus to launch a new partnership that will help create pathways to law enforcement careers for our students.

The visit began with an unforgettable helicopter landing on MacDowell Lawn and continued with interactive demonstrations showcasing specialized units and equipment, including the SERT Team, K-9 units, drones, robots, and patrol vehicles. Our students had the opportunity to engage directly with troopers and gain valuable insight into the many career opportunities available within modern law enforcement.

This partnership reflects our commitment to providing students with experiential learning opportunities and meaningful professional connections that prepare them for successful futures of service and leadership.

I want to thank the Pennsylvania State Police for their partnership, their time on campus, and their commitment to supporting the next generation of professionals.

What an extraordinary day celebrating the Class of 2026 at Misericordia University’s Spring Commencement ceremonies. 🎓

It was a privilege to recognize the accomplishments of both our undergraduate and graduate students as they reached this important milestone. Their hard work, resilience, and commitment have brought them to this moment, and I could not be more proud of all they have achieved.

Commencement is also a celebration of the families, friends, faculty, and mentors who supported our graduates throughout their journey. Thank you for being part of such a meaningful and memorable day.

To the Class of 2026: congratulations. I wish you continued success, purpose, and fulfillment as you move forward into your next chapter. You will always be part of the Misericordia family. 💙

Workforce development is often talked about in terms of programs and outcomes, but at its core, it’s about people—our students—and helping them discover where their education can take them.

At Misericordia, we believe that earning a degree is just one part of the journey. What matters just as much is how students are prepared to apply what they’ve learned in meaningful ways. Through our Guaranteed Placement Program, we’re intentional about creating opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, build professional skills, and develop the confidence and direction they need for what comes next.

From internships and employer partnerships to one-on-one guidance and professional development, this work reflects a larger philosophy: preparation goes beyond the classroom. It’s about forming habits, gaining experiences, and building a sense of purpose that will serve our graduates long after they leave campus.

I’m proud of the way our Misericordia community comes together to support students in this process—and to help them take the next step with confidence.

It was a pleasure to welcome Alaska Governor and Misericordia alumnus Mike Dunleavy ’83 back to campus on Friday.

Governor Dunleavy spent time with our students—including members of our basketball team—and engaged with our campus community, sharing insights from his journey in public service.

Opportunities like this are a meaningful reminder of the impact our alumni have and the paths our students can pursue.

Thank you for taking the time to return to Misericordia and connect with our community.

Misericordia means workforce development—and that starts with listening to the needs of our communities. Today, one of the most urgent challenges we face is the shortage of qualified teachers, particularly in special education.

Our Special Education (PK–12) apprenticeship degree program was created with that need in mind. It offers a flexible, supportive pathway for paraprofessionals and school employees to move toward certification while continuing to work in the field they care about. By building on their experience and commitment, we’re helping them grow into even greater roles in the classroom.

In partnership with LIU, local education agencies, and community colleges, this program reflects the kind of innovative, mission-driven approach that defines Misericordia—meeting people where they are, strengthening the workforce, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of students and families.

Misericordia Means Workforce Development.

At Misericordia University, we believe one of the most meaningful ways we can serve our region is by partnering directly with employers. Through our Center for Workforce Development and Talent Solutions, we’re bridging the gap between higher education and industry—creating customized, high-impact learning experiences that meet real workforce needs.

From leadership and communication to technology and industry-specific training, our programs are designed to strengthen organizations while helping individuals grow and advance in their careers.

This is what workforce development should look like in higher education: flexible, responsive, and built in true partnership with the community.
