Exciting news from Bob and Jason Heck of American Wire and Shapes - the owners of 81 South Bridge Street in Downtown Struthers. Starting July 4th - the beautiful Struthers Mural is receiving a much deserved upgrade with the addition of lighting so all can enjoy both day and night.

The upgrade of new stonework to 83 South Bridge Street (The former Sam's Barber Shop) is almost complete providing a beautiful update to the appearance.

Please join me in thanking Bob and Jason for these much needed upgrades and doing their part to make Downtown Struthers a little bit brighter place!

House of Bennys (Location # 2) is coming to Downtown Struthers in the old Struthers NewsStand - and it's all about speed, convenience, and coffee, coffee, coffee!!!

Our second spot will focus on grab-and-go favorites, specialty drinks, and all the quick sips and bites you crave!

Don't worry - our original location isn't changing a thing! If you love the full-service, sit-down Benny's experience, we've got you covered at Location # 1.

But if slowing down isn't your vibe, you'll be able to swing by the new HOB Cafe and keep it moving (with caffeine in hand).

The buildings got painted this week. We would have loved to restore the brick but there was just too much damage. Once the new windows and doors and trim get installed - the buildings should look very sharp. We will be releasing the names of the new businesses going in very soon - new buildings - new businesses - new jobs - and new Downtown living - we are adding some new apartments to the Downtown as well! I want to give a huge Thank You to the folks that have stuck with us so far - you know who you are - the wait will be worth it!

Over 60 years ago - someone thought it was a good idea to drill holes and break off pieces of the original terra cotta facade on 118 S Bridge Street and cover it with pink metal panels.

I have heard some folks talk about how bad the building looks while under construction - personally - I think it looks better now than it has any time in the last 60 years! 😉

The new windows have gone in on the 2nd floor - and this coming spring - the terra cotta will finally be completely restored and the new glass storefront can go in. This is the first time in over 60 years you can actually see the gorgeous original wood windows - instead of aluminum storm windows with foil taped to them. When I purchased the building - you couldn't even see out those windows - the Eagles had built a wall in front of those windows - taped insulation to them and boarded them up from the inside!

Imagine when all that plywood - is ALL GLASS! Going to be stunning!

Drive by some day when the sun is shining and you can see the shimmer now of the old terra cotta! 😀

Sometimes the wheels turn slowly - but they are turning! It is with great excitement for us to announce that the new roofs on 6 thru 10 State Street are finally complete. For the first time in a very very long time - the roofs are no longer leaking and they are 100% up to current building code from a roofing standpoint!

I want to give a shout out to Ryan at Mavarick Roofing for a job well done and Justin at TEMA Roofing for providing excellent guidance and advice during this project!

I also want to say thanks to Mahoning County and all the County Commissioners and Sarah Lown (and all the Team) at the Western Reserve Port Authority - this could have never happened without their involvement and sticking with us!

As some may have seen - we have also started the masonry restoration to the outside of these buildings. We are sorry about folks having to stare at the scaffolding - but Rome wasn't built overnight! 😀

With no more leaks - we are now able to focus on finalizing the details and permits for the interior restorations and get that work going!

Out of the 6 rental units between 6 - 14 State St - we have rental commitments on 5 of them.

Additionally - work continues to move forward on 167 S Bridge St - the building on the corner. When completed - this building will truly be a beauty at the main center intersection of Downtown!

Since day one - we have committed to restoring these buildings to their original beauty while bringing them up to all the current building codes - and we will continue that goal so they can serve the city well for another 100 years!

Unfortunately - with this goal in mind - things don't always move as fast as we would like them to. I want to personally apologize to everyone for having to stare at "works in progress" all these months - but I assure everyone that in the end it will all be worth it!

Today while working on our project Downtown - we got lunch for the crew at Brier Hill Pizza & Wings - and it was AMAZING! The chicken bacon ranch pizza was sooooo good - it lasted about 2 seconds! Thanks so much to the new owners George and his amazing wife Mary! If you haven’t tried them yet - you need to!
