We had a wonderful two days celebrating our M.S. Counseling - Clinical Mental Health graduates. They have accomplished so much while they were here. They studied psychotherapy, presented at conferences, published articles, and invested hundreds of hours in practicing their clinical counseling skills at various settings, including mental health agencies, schools, and university counseling centers. They have passed their licensure exams and will use all their skills to meet the mental health needs of our community.

The 2026 Mental Health Update conference was amazing! It was so nice to see so many familiar faces from the Texarkana area: social workers, licensed counselors, school counselors, clinical directors, and other professionals. The vendors, food, refreshments, swag bags, and speakers were terrific, and the session topics were relevant to our community's mental health needs.

Thank you, Dr. Kris Yells, Dr. Jennifer Turner-Marks, and the conference committee members who spearheaded, planned, and worked day and night to bring this conference to fruition. Special thanks to Amanda Bowers of Signature Care for her creativity and work on marketing. I would also like to acknowledge the student volunteers from Social Work, Counseling, and Delta Gamma Sigma who helped with set up, decorating, registering attendees, serving food, facilitating sessions, and cleaning up after the conference.

The Counseling program and the Delta Gamma Sigma chapter of Chi Sigma Iota were proud to support and participate in the Mental Health Update 2026 conference. It was hard to cancel the Delta Gamma Sigma annual spring conference, but it was worth it to bring the Mental Health Update, which has a longstanding tradition, back to the Texarkana area.

Texas A&M University - Texarkana's Delta Gamma Sigma chapter of Chi Sigma Iota will co-host the 2026 Mental Health Update. We hope to see many Chi Sigma Iota members, licensed professional counselors, school counselors, counselor educators, and counseling students from the Ark-La-Tex area at the conference. It will be a spectacular event!

Dr. Stehn presented at the Association for Creativity in Counseling in Washington DC. Her presentation was titled Voices Within: Integrating the Listening Guide, Counterpoint, and Parts Work in Therapeutic Practice.

Chi Sigma Iota members had fun at the Trunk and Treat last week. Kayla did an awesome job with the prizes and table setup and Lilly was great with the little ones!

The Counseling Program is accepting applications to the Master of Science in Counseling - Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program for the Spring 2026 term. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

The graduate programs at Texas A&M-Texarkana focus on practitioner-oriented degrees. Among these programs is Counseling, which equips students to fulfill the academic criteria necessary to qualify for the Licensed Professional Counselor licensing exam.

We had a fantastic time at the Fall Meet & Greet! The turnout was excellent, and we loved seeing administrators, counselors, students, alumni, community leaders, Mayor Bob Bruggeman, and representatives from counseling agencies, such as Olive Tree Counseling, whose counselors are graduates of our program.

The Delta Gamma Sigma executive council did a wonderful job decorating and hosting the event. A special thanks to Signature Care for providing the delicious Good Mood Food charcuterie boards and more. We thoroughly enjoyed everything!
